Recent research found that an extract from the ‘Thunder God’ plant, which is used in typical Chinese medicine, could possibly be used to help people lose weight and treat obesity.
People wanting to lose weight will rejoice because they may not have to follow strict diets and go through intensive workouts while taking the Thunder God plant. Instead, all one will probably be required to do is swallow a pill.
The extract made mice lose A LOT of weight
The research was done on obese mice. The results revealed that the mice that were given the extract in high doses lost as much as a surprising 45 percent weight, compared to no weight loss in mice who were not given the extract. This is coupled with the fact that the mice given the extract also ate 80 percent less food compared to their other counterparts.
The safest version of extreme weight loss?
The problem of obesity is quite common throughout the world and there isn’t any effective and standard solution for it. Bariatric surgery, an intense solution of treating obesity that involves shrinking the stomach, offers a weight loss of about 35 to 40 percent. However, it isn’t a perfect solution due to all the complications involved.
On the other hand, this extract solution seems to be way more promising. Patients could potentially swallow a pill and lose more weight than if they had undergone intense “lap band” surgery.
This magic weight loss extract may be far away for human use
Regardless of how promising and impressive this particular weight loss solution seems, it’s currently far from being a viable treatment option. Dr. Eric Newman, a radiology resident at Jacobi Medical Center in New York, says that studies done on mice can’t ensure the same results in humans. Dr. Newman, it should be noted, was not involved in this study.
Furthermore, even the author of the conducted study, Dr. Umut Ozcan, said that it’ll probably be a long time before they manage to come up with anything actually useful in humans. He did say, however, that the research results seem to be promising and might even help treat quite a few other health issues other than obesity. He also warned that no one should try to treat their obesity problem using Thunder God vine extracts as of now, as it may even lead to some serious health complications.
