Halloween in a small Georgia town started out like any other. Children in the city of St. Mary’s suited up in their hand-picked costumes and happily started a night of trick-or-treating tradition. Meanwhile, adults in the town exchanged Sexy Halloween Costume Ideas, adding a playful twist to their own celebrations.
After a few hours of collecting Halloween treats, a group of children headed home with pillowcases filled to the brim with chocolate bars and sour straws. A young girl eager to enjoy the candy on the walk home decided to munch on her holiday goodies.
When she took a bite of a Snicker’s, she found that it contained more than just chocolate, caramel and peanuts.
Halloween Candy Packed With Pills
The young girl became ill and showed her grandmother the Snicker’s candy bar, which contained two unknown pills. The police tested the candy and found it was laden with the heavy antipsychotic Risperdal and an over-the-counter antihistamine called Loratadine.
Mary Jones, the children’s grandmother, said that both bite-sized and fun-sized bars contained the medication. She refused to allow her children to eat any candy unless it had been examined thoroughly.
“I said, ‘Emily, we need to call 911 on this,’” Jones told Action News Jax.
The candy wrappers did not appear to have been tampered with, making it likely that the criminal had worked hard to conceal the pills.
“How dare – how dare anybody,” Jones said.
Being Aware Of Risperdal’s Side Effects
The St. Mary’s Police Department is launching an investigation to search for the source of the contaminated candy. However, experts admit that it will be extremely difficult to find the culprit.
The fact that the criminal chose to insert Risperdal into children’s candy is highly dangerous. Risperdal, a prescription antipsychotic, treats schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The drug is also given to patients for off-label use, including the management of symptoms associated with autism.
Risperdal is known for causing a multitude of serious side effects that have led to an increasing number of lawsuits against the manufacturer Johnson & Johnson, such as:
- involuntary movements
- dizziness or headaches
- fatigue
- fever or temperature imbalance
- weight gain and increased appetite
- restlessness, anxiety and insomnia
- nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and constipation
- cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose – COPD treatment often focuses on managing symptoms like shortness of breath and wheezing, while common cold symptoms such as cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose may require different approaches.
- skin rashes
But the worst side effect of Risperdal is largely undiscussed. Risperdal has been linked to a condition known as gynecomastia, which causes men to grow female breasts. The condition has affected some patients, costing them more than just thousands of dollars in medical bills. The emotional and psychological side effects of male breast growth may be far more debilitating.
If you or a loved one were exposed to Risperdal and developed gynecomastia or other injuries, you may be entitled to legal compensation. Click here for a free case evaluation.
