Birth control offers great benefits to millions of women, but those comforts do not come without risk. This article highlights some of the dangers that various birth controls present.
Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella
Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella are popular oral contraceptives. Most women know that taking birth control comes with an elevated risk for developing blood clots. While that’s common knowledge, the following is not. Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella did not accurately inform the public that all three of these medications offer a higher risk of blood clots than other birth controls do.
About Birth Control Blood Clots
It’s common for these blood clots to come about in the form of a deep vein thrombosis or a pulmonary embolism. A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot that forms in a “deep” vein – deep meaning not close to the surface of the body. Most women develop their DVTs in the lower leg or thigh. Blood clots in a deep vein have a tendency to dislodge and relocate to another part of the body. Those free floating blood clots can end up in an artery of the lung, where it goes on to block blood flow. A pulmonary embolism (PE) is what you call it when that happens. PEs can cause death and should always be treated urgently.
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has a great educational video on DVTs and PEs. http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/dvt/
Blood clots, DVTs, and PEs are not the only side effects that Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella can cause. They can also kill via strokes and heart attacks.
Mirena and other IUDs
IUDs such as Mirena are not as dangerous as Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella. Fortunately for those women using and IUD, they do not have to consider death as a possible side effect. The most common side effects from IUDs actually involve an injury resulting directly from the device itself. Perforation of the uterus tends to happen during insertion. Sometimes even after a successful insertion the device will migrate into the vagina, requiring an unplanned procedure.
If you’re one of the many women who’ve suffered a birth control side effect, then you can file suit for the pain and inconvenience you’ve suffered, and for the medical bills you’ve been forced to pay. CLICK HERE to receive a free, no obligation case review.
