The large chain store has issued a recall of these macadamia nuts due to the potential of contamination with Salmonella. Salmonella is a type of infection that is known to cause serious and potentially life threatening symptoms. Common symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. In some cases, Salmonella can get into the blood stream and lead to more serious complications including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
There Have Been No Reported Illnesses as of Yet
The infection was discovered after a routine FDA test found Salmonella in a few samples of the raw macademia nuts. The nuts were sold in AR, AZ, CA, CO, HI, KS, LA, NM, NV, OK, TX, and UT Whole Foods Stores. Whole Foods asks any customers to discard any of these products they may have purchased. Customers who did purchase the product can bring in a copy of their receipt to receive a full refund on the product. Anyone with questions can contact Whole Foods customer service directly at 512-477-5566 ext. 20060.
